This project is based on Jacques Lacan's mirror phase, Laura Mulvey's understanding of scopophilia, voyeurism, and feteshisim.
This postcard is informed by Malik Aluola’s examination of Algerian postcards taken between 1900 and 1930 by French Orientalist photographers.
The artist put herself in the position of the Algerian woman photographed in this picture to express the notion that selfie taking may be not authentic just like those photographs by French Orientalist photographs of women

In this work, the artist was exploring the notion that selfie takers may be, on one hand trying to find a real, authentic representation of self. But on the other hand, they fail to do so because the Ideal the selfie taker is seeking is unreal.
